BOSTON, Mass. – The Providence College women's track team competed at the Terrier Classic at Boston University on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. Junior
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) led the squad as she set a school record in the 800-meter invite, winning her heat and placing sixth overall in a program-record time of 2:01.96. O'Neill broke
Kimberley May's record of 2:04.47, set in 2024 and has now broken program records in the 500, 600 and 800 meters this season. Her 2:01.96 is the third fastest time in the NCAA this season.

The Friars also got a strong performance from sophomore
Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.), who set a program record in the 200 meters, finishing in 25.00 to break a 39-year-old school record set by Jacqui Stokes in 1987. Kelly finished 13th in the event.
Freshman
Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) competed in the 1,000 meters and placed fourth in a time of 2:44.55, the fifth-fastest indoor mark in program history and an Irish junior indoor record. Galvin broke the record of Friar alumna Sinead Delahunty, which was set at the Terrier Classic in 1990 (2:47.37).
Senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) placed sixth in the mile with an indoor personal-best time of 4:40.34. Additional strong performances in the mile included freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand), who finished 11th in 4:41.77, and junior
Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand), who placed 18th in a personal-record time of 4:45.56.
The Friar women recorded three strong finishes in the 3,000 meters. Sophomore
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the group, placing 28th in a personal-best time of 9:25.20. Bush was followed by senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland), who placed 29th in 9:25.64.
Sophomore
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) competed in the 400-meter invite and placed 18th in a time of 57.02, an indoor personal best. Junior Margaret Kemper (Huntington, N.Y.) competed in the 400-meter open and also set an indoor personal best, finishing 23rd in 58.86.
The Friar women will return to action on Feb. 14 at the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
