LEXINGTON, Ky. – Providence College junior
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) and senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) each ran today (May 28) at the NCAA First Round competitions at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
O'Neill competed in the 800 meters. She ran a time of 2:02.66 and finished first in her heat. O'Neill qualified for Saturday's quarterfinal race, which will be held at 7:05 p.m. A total of 24 of the 48 athletes who ran the event advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the 1,500-meter first round, Laverty crossed the line in a time of 4:21.18 to finish ninth in her heat.

The Friars will return to action on Friday when sophomore Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) will run the 1,500-meter quarterfinals at 5:15 p.m. Also schedule to compete for the Friars is sophomores
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland), Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) and freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) in the 5,000 meters on Saturday at 8:10 p.m.
