Men’s And Women’s Track To Run At Boston University Valentine Invitational

The Friar men will compete on Feb. 13 and the women will compete on Feb. 14.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Boston, Mass. for the 2026 BU Valentine Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center and be streamed live on FloSports. The men will compete on Friday, Feb. 13, with the women competing the following day on Saturday, Feb. 14.

The Friar women will be led by senior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) in the mile. At the BU Terrier Classic on Friday, Jan. 30, Laverty finished sixth in a personal-best time of 4:40.34. She has also competed in the 1,000 meters (2:47.66) and the 3,000 meters (9:25.43) this season. Also racing in the mile will be freshman Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) and junior Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand). Currie placed 11th in the mile at the BU Terrier Classic in 4:41.77, while Hall set a personal best of 4:45.56 at the same meet.
 
Junior Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) will compete in the 800 meters. On Tuesday, Feb. 3, O'Neill was named BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week after winning her heat and placing sixth overall in the 800-meter invitational in a program-record time of 2:01.96 at the BU Terrier Classic on Friday, Jan. 30. To open the season, O'Neill set a program record in the 600 meters at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 6, winning in 1:28.09. She followed with another program record on Jan. 17 at the Harvard Beantown Challenge, capturing the 1,000 meters in 2:41.07 to break Millie Paladino's 2019 mark of 2:42.13. Freshman Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) will make her collegiate debut in the 800 meters.
 
In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) will make her first indoor appearance of the season. Schmidt holds a personal best of 9:23.94 in the event. Also competing in the 3,000 meters will be freshman Emilia O'Leary (East Aurora, N.Y.).
 
On the men's side, sophomore Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.) will compete in the 800 meters. At the BU Terrier Classic on Saturday, Jan. 31, Breen won the open division in a personal-best time of 1:50.48.
 
The Friars will have six runners in the mile on Friday, including freshman Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia), junior Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.), sophomore Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.), senior Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand), sophomore Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) and sophomore Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand). Powell owns the fastest mile time among the group at 4:00.95, set at the BU Valentine Invitational on Feb. 11, 2023.
