Men’s and Women’s Track Teams Compete At Jay Carisella Invitational

Cara Laverty won the women’s 1,500 and Elliot Pugh won on the men’s side and Ann Gardiner captured the 3,000 meters.

DEDHAM, Mass. – The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday, May 2, at the Solomon Track and Field Facility in Dedham, Mass.

The Friars dominated in the women's 1,500 meters, as senior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) captured the race in a time of 4:19.60.  Freshman Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) finished second (4:19.97) and sophomore Annie Mann (Hampshire, England) was fourth (4:24.64).
 
Sophomore Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland) led the Friars in the 3,000 meters as they captured six of the top eight spots.  Gardiner won the race in a personal best time of 9:17.69. Freshman Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished second (9:19.57), and senior Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) placed third (9:19.66).  Currie ran a personal best.  Also, competing in the 3,000 were sophomore Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) (fourth, 9:23.21), freshman Lucia West (Raleigh, N.C.) (fifth, 9:44.66 PR) and junior Kaleigh Higgins (Watervliet, N.Y.) (eighth, 10:02.78).
 
In the 200 meters, sophomore Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.) was third in a time of 25.04. Sophomore Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) finished fourth (25:14) and junior Maggie Kemper (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) finished seventh in a personal best time of 25.44.
 
On the men's side, the Friars had seven runners finish in the top nine in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) won the 1,500 meters in a personal best time  of 3:41.04. Sophomore Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) (second, 3:41.10), junior Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) (fourth, 3:44.48), sophomore Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) (sixth, 3:44.98), sophomore Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) (seventh, 3:45.32), graduate student Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) (eighth, 3:45.52) and freshman Oliver Neate (Sydney Australia) (ninth, 3:45.60) all finished in the top 10.
 
Freshman Jeb Hillary (Grand Rapid, Mich.) finished second in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:49.09.
 
Sophomore Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.) finished second in the 800 meters in a personal best time of time of 1:48.58.
 
 In the 400 meters, senior Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) placed fifth (48.63).
 
In the field events, junior Jon Mignacca placed fifth (1.85m) in the high jump. In the triple jump, senior Nik Ventura (Jamison, Pa.) finished seventh (12.70 m).
