Men’s and Women’s Track Set To Compete At The Boston University Terrier Classic

The Friar women will run on Jan. 30 and the men will compete on Jan. 31 in Boston, Mass.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Boston, Mass. for the 2026 BU Terrier Classic. The two-day event will be held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center and will be streamed live on FloTrack. The women will compete on Friday, Jan. 30, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The men will compete the following day on Saturday, Jan. 31, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Leading the Friar women will be junior Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland). O'Neill, a two-time All-American, is set to compete in the 800 meters. She ran an indoor personal best time of 2:04.66 in the 800 meters at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Feb. 15, 2025, the second-fastest indoor mark in program history behind Kimberley May (2:04.47). The junior has set program records this season in both the 600 meters (1:28.09) and the 1,000 meters (2:41.07).
 
Senior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and freshman Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) will compete in the mile. Laverty set an indoor personal record of 4:44.48 in the mile at the Terrier Classic in 2024. Currie began her indoor career in the 3,000 meters on Jan. 26, 2026, at the Harvard Beantown Challenge, where she won the race in 9:24.29. Fellow freshman Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) will compete in the 1,000 meters. This season, Galvin has run the 3,000 meters (9:41.57) and the mile at the Harvard Beantown Challenge, earning second place in 4:45.56. Also racing this weekend will be sophomore Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) in the 3,000 meters. Bush ran an indoor personal best in the 3,000 meters last year at the Terrier Classic in 9:27.29.
 
Competing for the men's team will be graduate student Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland), sophomore Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) and freshman Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia), all in the 3,000 meters. Morgan will be making his season debut and owns a personal best of 7:56.01 in the indoor 3,000 meters, set in February 2024 at the Valentine Invitational. Prescott raced in the 3,000 meters at the Boston University Season Opener on Dec. 6, 2025, in 8:13.87. Neate began his indoor career in the 1,000 meters at the Harvard Beantown Challenge in 2:27.18.
 
Sophomore Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.) will compete in the 800 meters. Breen established the program record in the 600 meters at the Brown Alden Invitational (1:20.75) before breaking his own record at the Harvard Beantown Challenge on Jan. 17 in a time of 1:20.17. Senior Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) will race in the 1,000 meters this weekend. In 2023, Powell won the 1,000 meters at the IC4A Indoor Championship in 2:23.15.
