VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Providence College softball team was swept in a series-opening doubleheader against Villanova University on Saturday (April 17). The Friars dropped game one, 6-1, and game two, 2-0.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Wildcats amassed 10 hits in game one, racing out to 3-0 lead through the first inning.
-The Friars scored their sole point of the game after Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) hit a homer to center field.
-Villanova added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 6-1.
-Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) pitched all six innings for the Friars, surrendering ten hits and six earned runs.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Villanova gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning with a single down the right field line by Chloe Smith.
- The Wildcats tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth inning on a single play to make it 2-0.
-Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched all innings for Providence, allowing five hits and two earned runs.
ON DECK
Providence will return tomorrow to finish out the three-game series against Villanova at noon.
