PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The BIG EAST Conference announced its major awards and All-BIG EAST selections for softball today [May 6]. Providence College was well represented among the list of honorees. Junior

Kelsey Christensen and her assistants claimed BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Additionally, Twomey and senior

Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) and
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and freshman
Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) were featured on the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Â
Providence's six All-BIG EAST selections are tied for the most in program history. The 1994 and 1995 teams also had six all-conference picks. Twomey became the program's first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and is the first major award winner overall for the program since 2019, when Daniela Alvarez was named Co-Freshman of the Year. Additionally, the Friars' two First-Team selections are the most since 2016. Christensen and her assistants are the first Providence staff to be named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for softball.
Â
Twomey, a unanimous First-Team selection, has posted a 12-1 record with a 3.09 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 88.1 innings of work. In BIG EAST play, she ranks second in the conference with a 2.22 ERA and first in opponent batting average (.206). She has tossed five complete games this season, including two complete-game shutouts. Twomey earned Pitcher of the Week on April 13. Â
Â
Jonte owns a .370 batting average, .513 slugging percentage, 20 RBI and two home runs. In BIG EAST play, she hit .403 and started all 24 conference games. Jonte was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 23 following a strong performance in a series sweep over DePaul. She batted .667 (6-9) against the Blue Demons with two doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored, while posting a .700 on-base percentage and an .889 slugging percentage.
Â
Dunn has been featured on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times this season (2/9, 2/23, 3/30, 4/13, 4/27). She ranks among the conference leaders in batting average (.412), slugging percentage (.838), on-base percentage (0.532), RBI (56) and home runs (15). Her 15 home runs set a new single-season program record. Dunn also eclipsed 100 career hits during the 2026 campaign.
Â
Frantz has enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, batting .246 with a .357 on-base percentage, 18 RBI and four home runs. She has appeared in 45 games for the Friars and all 24 BIG EAST contests.
Â
Peterson earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition once this season (3/16). She has posted a .331 batting average, a .549 slugging percentage, 37 RBI and eight home runs. Peterson has appeared in all 24 BIG EAST games and surpassed 100 career hits earlier this season.
Â
Renny has played in all 24 conference games for the Friars. She is batting .336 with a .707 slugging percentage and has recorded 10 home runs and 43 RBI on the season.
Â
The coaching staff, led by third-year head coach
Kelsey Christensen and assisted by pitching coach
Taran Alvelo, assistant coach Aleima Lopez and graduate assistant Brendan Morales, guided Providence to a historic season. After going 18-6 in conference play, the Friars secured a share of their first BIG EAST Regular-Season title and clinched the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST EAST Tournament for the first time in program history. Providence opened BIG EAST play with a program-best 7-1 start and later tied a program record with an eight-game winning streak. The Friars also set a program record with 18 conference wins and established new single-season marks for runs scored (276) and walks (189), both surpassing previous records set in 2017. Providence is also closing in on the program's home run record. The Friars have recorded 56 home runs this season, which is just two of the current record set in 2011 (58).
