Softball Splits Doubleheader With Georgetown

Zoe Krizan recorded two home runs on the day.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (27-16, 16-4 BIG EAST) split a midweek doubleheader with the Georgetown University Hoyas (16-22, 9-11 BIG EAST) on Tuesday, April 28. The Friars won game one, 9-1, in six innings and dropped game two, 2-1. Junior Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched a complete game in the game one win, striking out six batters.


GAME ONE NOTES

  • In the fourth inning, Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) got the Friars on the board when she blasted a two-run home run to right field, scoring Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.), to put Providence ahead, 2-1.
  • In the fifth, Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) singled up the middle, driving in Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.), to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • Later in the inning, Peterson doubled to left-center field, bringing home Jonte while Renny advanced to third as the Friars made it 4-1.
  • Providence added to the lead in the same inning when Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) grounded out to second base, allowing Renny to score and push the lead to 5-1.
  • In the sixth, Zoe Krizan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) launched a solo home run to left-center field to make it 6-1. After the Friars got runners on base, Renny singled to right field, driving in Dominique Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) and Jonte to extend the advantage to 8-1.
  • Providence ended the game in the sixth when De La Fuente drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) to cap the scoring for Providence and make the final score 9-1.
  • In the circle, Twomey pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing one run.

GAME TWO NOTES

  • Georgetown got on the board in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Krizan added a home run in the seventh inning to make it 2-1, but the Friars could not complete the comeback as Georgetown took the game.
  • Addy Frye (New Castle, Pa.) pitched a complete game and recorded two strikeouts.
