Softball Prepares For Road Games Against Villanova and St. John’s

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will look to improve on its 2-7 overall record on the road when they travel to Villanova, Pa. and Queens, N.Y. to take on the Villanova University Wildcats and the St. John's University Red Storm. The Friars and Wildcats will face off in a doubleheader (12/2 p.m.) on Saturday before concluding the three-game series at 11 a.m. on Sunday. On Monday, the Friars will square off in a single game against the Red Storm at 12 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars hit the road with a 0-2 away record compared to their 2-5 record at home. Most recently, the were defeated in a doubleheader against the St. John's Red Storm, on March 27. Providence holds a 1-4 conference record.
 
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Mairead O'Sullivan (Grafton, Mass.) lead the team in hitting percentage, .231. Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) leads the team in both RBI (2) and slugging percentage (.357). Madi Traver (Irving, Texas) has a team-high one run home.
 
Providence's pitching staff is led by Tori Grifone and Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.), each tallying one win. Alvarez has a 3.17 ERA through 17.2 innings pitched and Grifone holds a 2.75 ERA in 20.1 innings.
 
SCOUTING VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY:
The Wildcats sit at 20-10 overall on the season with a 4-1 conference record in the BIG EAST. Most recently, Villanova swept a three-game series on the road against Butler University.

The Friars will have to stop Ryan Henry at the plate, who has a team-high nine home runs and 24 RBI on the season with a .299 batting average. Sophomore Chloe Smith has a team-high .419 batting average, also bringing in 24 RBI and tallying six home runs.
 
All six pitchers have entered the circle for the Wildcats this season, with Paige Rauch and Sara Kennedy leading the pack in wins. Rauch has a 12-2 record and a 1.90 ERA compared to Kennedy's 4-3 record and 4.23 ERA. Both pitchers keep the ball in the park, allowing only 12 home runs in 132.2 innings pitched.
 
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S UNIVERSITY:
The Red Storm enters the weekend at 8-13 overall in 2021 and 5-9 in conference play. Last weekend, St. John's went 1-2 in a three-game road series against Creighton University. The Friars matched up against the Red Storm earlier this season (March 27) and were swept 0-2.
Marissa Rizzi has the team's leading batting average at .424 with 25 hits, three home runs and 14 RBI. She also leads in the team with a .763 slugging percentage. Peyton Cody leads the team with four home runs and 19 RBI, while posting a .338 batting average. Gretchen Bowie (.375), Kaitlin Mattera (.353), and Kaitlyn Lologo (.280) round out the top five in batting average.
 
In the circle, Kayla Kmett is 4-5 with a 5.51 ERA over 53.1 innings. Erin Brown has a 3-6 record and has posted a 5.25 ERA in 56.0 innings.  

ON DECK:
Providence will host Butler University in a weekend series beginning with a double header on Saturday, April 24 at 12:00 p.m. before the final game on Sunday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m.
