CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Providence College softball team split the final day of the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase on Sunday, March 10 in Clearwater, Fla. The Friars dropped game one to South Dakota State, 4-1, but bounced back and took down Saint Joseph's in game two, 3-2.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence kept the game within one run heading into the final two innings but could not complete the comeback, falling 4-1 to South Dakota State.
- The Jackrabbits tallied two runs in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one on an RBI double followed by a passed ball to end the bottom of the first.

Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) used situational hitting to plate one in the top of the third inning, Flego hit a sacrifice fly to right field to cut the South Dakota State lead to one, 2-1 to end the third.
- Baily Janssen padded the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the win, Janssen hit a two-RBI double to increase their lead to 4-1 with one inning to play. Providence failed to score in the seventh inning.

Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. McCune was the pitcher of record and picked up the loss.

Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.), McCune, Mairead O'Sullivan (Grafton, Mass.), Allison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) and
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) all recorded hits.
Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) picked up two hits out of the six hole in the lineup.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Friars gave up an early run in the first inning but gained the lead in the fifth inning and never looked back, earning a 3-2 victory over Saint Joseph's.
- Saint Joseph's chalked up one run in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI single.
- Portillo plated
Skie Villani (Sugar Land, Texas) and Flego on an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to build a 2-1 lead.
- Providence added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.).
- The Hawks attempted to comeback in the final two innings, scoring one on a sacrifice fly to Flego in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team failed to score in the seventh to seal Providence's 3-2 win.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) improved to 6-2 on the season earning the win.

Providence will play a lone game against Colgate on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. before competing in the USF-Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Spring Invitational over the weekend from March 15-17.
