CLEARWATER, FLA. – The Providence College softball team defeated the Colgate Raiders, 3-1, on Wednesday, March 13 in Clearwater, Fla. The win improved the Friars record to 10-7 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) stole second during
Vanessa Portillo's (Chatsworth, Calif.) at bat to put her in scoring position. Portillo hit a double to score Flego and give Providence an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The RBI double gave Portillo her fifth RBI of the season.
- Portillo added another double in the top of the third.
Taylor Stephen (Monarch Beach, Calif.) hit a single to plate Portillo and make it a 2-0 lead. The RBI single gave Stephen her third RBI of the season.
-The Friars shutout the Raiders in the fourth and fifth innings. In the bottom of the fourth,
Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) tallied a strikeout and on the same pitch,
Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) threw the runner out on attempt to steal second for the third out. The strikeout was Trinidad's ninth strikeout of the season.
- Colgate gained their first run on an infield ground ball in the bottom of the sixth. Providence led 2-1 at the end of the sixth inning.
- Flego and Portillo hit back-to-back singles to start the top of the seventh. The single gave Portillo her third hit of the game and 14th of the season. Stephen also hit a single to load the bases. That single was Stephen's second hit of the game. With bases loaded, Martin hit a single to score Flego expanding the Providence lead to 3-1. That run was Flego's second run of the game and seventh of the season.

Skie Villani(Sugar Land, Texas),
Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) and
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) each recorded a hit against the Raiders.
- Trinidad earned the start in the circle and struck out two while pitching five innings giving up four hits. She was the pitcher of record and gave up zero earned runs to earn the win.
Julia Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass.) relieved Trinidad pitching the sixth and seventh inning to record the save. Murphy allowed three hits and gave up one run.

Providence will play in the USF – Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Spring Invitational in Clearwater, FL. On March 15-17. The Friars will match-up against Columbia, Towson, Colgate, Florida A&M and Lafayette.
