Softball Drops Series Opener At Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Providence College softball team was defeated in the BIG EAST series opener against Villanova (25-24-1, 13-9 BIG EAST), 8-0, in five innings on Friday, May 2 at the Villanova Softball Complex in Villanova, Pa. Providence moved to 22-27 overall including an 11-11 mark in BIG EAST play.

GAME NOTES

· The Wildcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring two early runs in the second and three more in the third.

· Villanova added three additional runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game in the fifth inning with a scoreline of 8-0 in favor of the Wildcats.

· Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.), Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) and Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) recorded hits for the Friars.

· Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.), Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) and Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) each spent time in the circle for PC.

ON DECK

The Friars will continue series play at Villanova on Saturday, May 3. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and will stream on FloCollege.
