Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) delivered a complete-game performance in the circle, tallying a season-high seven strikeouts.
GAME RECAP
- Providence opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.), bringing home Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) for a 1-0 lead.
- In the second inning, Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) scored on a fielder's choice to extend the Friars' advantage to 2-0.
- Villanova responded with a two-run home run in the third to even the score, 2-2.
- Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) regained the lead for Providence with an RBI infield single that scored Petrarca and make it 3-2.
- Renny added to the lead in the fifth with a solo home run to put the Friars ahead 4-2.
- The Wildcats cut the deficit to one with a home run in the bottom half of the fifth and later tied the game, 4-4, following a Providence error.
- Villanova secured the win with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Twomey pitched all seven innings for the Friars, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out seven.
- Peterson went 3-for-4 at the plate and Lee added a 2-for-3 performance.
