The Friars will play the Hoyas in a three-game conference series on April 16 & 17.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team will head to Washington, D.C. to take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Providence will begin single play with a game on Wednesday, April 16 starting at 3:00 p.m., and will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Thursday, April 17 starting at 12:00 p.m. All games will be available for viewing on FloCollege.   Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCEÂ
Providence enters the series with a 13-23 overall record and a 9-9 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars edged Bryant, 5-4, in a midweek matchup before dropping two of three games in a BIG EAST series against UConn on April 11 and 13.Â
Senior Emma Douma (Midland Park N.J.) paced the Friars last week with six hits, four RBI, one home run and a .846 slugging percentage. Douma led Providence to the win over Bryant, finishing with a solo home run, two hits and two RBI. In the Friars' lone win over the Huskies, Douma registered the game-tying RBI. She has recorded 23 RBI on the season, which ranks second on the team. Â
Graduate student Tori Grifone capped off last week with a 1-0 record across 9.2 innings of work. She allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits, while holding opposing batters to a .275 average. In game one against UConn, Grifone delivered a complete-game performance, going the full seven innings, while limiting the Huskies to five hits and one earned run. She recorded three strikeouts and earned her seventh win of the season. Â
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN Â
Georgetown enters the series with a 9-23 overall record and a 0-15 record in BIG EAST play. During their bye week, the Hoyas earned a non-conference road win over local rival George Mason, defeating the Patriots, 5-3, on April 9.Â
Sophomore infielder Emily Strittmatter leads the Hoyas in several offensive categories, including batting average (.333), RBIs (22), slugging percentage (.656), on-base percentage (.426) and home runs (seven). She played a key role in last week's win, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI.Â
ON DECKÂ Â
The Friars are set for three non-conference road games next week. They'll face Stonehill in a doubleheader on Monday, April 21 in Easton, Mass., with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Providence will head to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant in a single game on Wednesday, April 23 at 4:00 p.m.Â
