Luis Garcia scored the deciding goal for the Friars.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The No. 18 Providence College men's soccer team defeated the Brown Bears (3-3-1), 2-1, in a non-conference inner-city rivalry match on Tuesday, Sept. 24 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 6-2-1 overall in the 2024 season. Graduate students Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England) and Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) netted the goals for the Friars. Garcia's game-winning goal was his first of the season and the eighth of his career.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The Friars took an early lead in the 10th minute after Bruno Rosa's shot was deflected by Brown's goalkeeper and tapped in by Scarborough for his second goal of the season.
- Brown found the 1-1 equalizer in the second half (47:50) on a goal from Harri Sprofera.
- With 17 minutes left, the Friars were awarded a free kick from the top of the box. Garcia's strike curled under the goalkeeper and into the side netting which proved to be the game-winner. It marked Garcia's first goal of the season.
- Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded three saves for the Friars.
- The Friars defeated the Bears at home for the first time since 2019.
- Prior to the match, Providence was slotted at No. 18 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings.

(1-1)-Brown-47:50/2nd – Mads Stistrup Petersen delivered a free kick that connected with Harri Sprofera's head, sending the ball into the side netting.
(2-1)-Providence-73:33/2nd – Garcia's free kick from the edge of the box curled just beyond the goalkeeper's reach and struck the inside of the left post.
