Rosa records first brace of the season for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Villanova, 5-0, on Friday, Oct. 3 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. With the win, the Friars improved to 4-5-1 (2-1-0 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats fell to 3-4-3 (1-1-1 BIG EAST). Senior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugual) highlighted the night with two goals in the contest while graduate student Fernando Garcia Gil (Granada, Spain), senior Ian Abbey (Elmer, N.J.) and redshirt-freshman Khayr Ogunsanya (Sicklerville, N.J.) each scored one goal for the Friars. Redshirt-freshman goalkeepers Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) and Julian Ballester (Preston, Conn.)  recorded the clean sheet in net.

GAME FLOWS & NOTES
• The Friars struck first 12 minutes in to the match (11:02) when Fernando Garcia Gil converted a feed from Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) and Mitchel Varley (Portsmouth, N.H.) to give the Friars the 1-0 lead.

• Providence doubled its lead in the 19th minute (18:13) when Ian Abbey connected on a beautiful feed from Bruno Rosa to make it 2-0 Friars.

• Rosa then extended the lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute (48:11), finishing a header on a pass from Abbey.

• Just two minutes later (50:11), Rosa delivered a highlight-reel bicycle kick off a cross from Mitchel Varley to make it 4-0.  

• Khayr Ogunsanya capped the scoring in the 78th minute (77:05) with his first collegiate goal, assisted by Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.).

• The Friars outshot Villanova 17-8 and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

• The back line of Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal), Cameron Yriondo (Sammamish, Wash.), Charlie Dickerson (Norwich, England) and Mitchel Varley stood strong in front of goalkeeper Ryan Carney to record the clean sheet for the Friars.

• 18 different Friars entered the game, the most thus far this season.
