QUEENS, N.Y. - The Providence College men's soccer team (4-5-1, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) are set to take on the St. John's Red Storm (5-3-3, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 5:00 p.m. on Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS
The Friars enter Friday's match after a dominant 5-0 victory over Villanova on Friday, Oct. 3. The Friars were led by senior forward
Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) who recorded two goals and an assist, earning him BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Redshirt-freshman
Khayr Ogunsanya (Sicklerville, N.J.) recorded his first collegiate goal in the match.
The Friars are building momentum in the second half of the season, registering points in their last three contests. Through nine games, the Friars have outshot opponents 133-92, which comes to an average of 13.3 shots per game. They also hold a 59-41 advantage in shots on target and hold a 58-28 advantage in corner kicks. Seniors
Ian Abbey (Elmer, N.J.) and
Bruno Rosa lead the teams in points, both registering eight.
Sam Montalto has put together a strong senior campaign, registering seven points on two goals and three assists. Freshman
Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Canada) and graduate student
Fernando Garcia Gil (Granada, Spain) have been consistent offensive threats for the Friars, each scoring two goals in their first season with the team.
Caden Stafford (Cincinnatus, N.Y.),
Cameron Yriondo (Sammamish, Wash.) and
Khayr Ogunsanya all have recorded one goal on the year.
Defensively, the Friars have conceded 12 goals while holding opponents to nine shots per game. Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) has started every match in net this season, collecting 29 saves and a .707 save percentage. Graduate

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
It was announced on Sept. 29 that senior
Sam Montalto was named to the
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Montalto registered two goals in a 1-0-1 week for the Friars, tallying the equalizer in the 90
th minute in a 1-1 draw with Brown, as well as adding a goal in a 3-2 win at Xavier.
It was announced on Oct. 6 that senior
Bruno Rosa was named the
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Rosa registered five points in the Friars' 5-0 win over Villanova, tallying two goals and an assist. Rosa became the first Friar to receive this recognition since Liam McSorley in 2023.
Two returners earned All-BIG EAST honors last season for the Friars. Rosa earned All-BIG EAST Second Team. Senior midfielder
Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. Both Rosa and Batista were named to the 2025 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Aug. 19.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM
The Red Storm come in to Providence after securing a strong BIG EAST win, beating No. 19 Akron, 2-1, on Oct. 3. Andrew Porucznik was awarded BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the match. The game marked the Red Storm's first top-20 road win since they beat the then No. 13 Friars in 2021. The Red Storm have two ties against top 5 teams this season. Earning a 0-0 draw against No. 5 Wake Forest on Aug. 31 and a 1-1 draw against No. 2 Marshall on Sept. 5.
Like Providence, St. John's has a significant advantage in shots, outshooting opponents 136-67. Guilherme Gomes leads the attack for the red storm, tallying four goals on the season. Including Gomes, the red Storm have nine different goal scorers.
UPNEXT… The Friars return home to host the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will be streamed on Friars Live.
