Men's Soccer Falls To The Red Storm, 3-2

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College men's soccer team fell to St. John's, 3-2, on Saturday, Oct. 11 on Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. With the loss, the Friars dropped to 4-6-1 (2-2-0 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 6-3-3 (2-1-1 BIG EAST). Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) and Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) each scored for Providence in the match.

GAME FLOWS & NOTES
• Providence struck first in the 35th minute (34:40) when Vasco Teixeira recorded his first goal of the season, finishing a setup from Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) and Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) .
• The Friars doubled their lead just five minutes later (39:19), when Sam Montalto netted his third goal of the season on an unassisted shot to make it 2-0.
• St. John's cut into the deficit in the 45th minute (44:26) on a penalty kick from Bjorn Nikolajewski to make it 2-1 going into the half.
• The Red Storm equalized early in the second half (52:12) when Ivar Na Aga converted off a pass from Julian Jakopovic.
• In the 72nd minute, Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) made an impressive save to keep the game tied at 2.
• St. John's took the lead for the first time in the 88th minute (87:16) as Guilherme Gomes scored on a shot assisted by Jeremy Sharp and Gabin Thomelier.
• Providence was edged in shots, 11-9, and held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
• Seven different Friars registered a shot, led by Montalto with three.
