Friars earn point in league standings with scoreless draw with UConn.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against UConn on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. With the result, the Friars moved to 5-6-2 (3-2-1 BIG EAST), while the Huskies stand at 8-3-4 (3-2-1 BIG EAST). The two teams remained tied in fourth place of the BIG EAST standings with two games to go. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season.

GAME FLOWS & NOTES
• Providence generated several early chances, including a pair of shot on goal from Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) and Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) in the opening 20 minutes.  
• Providence outshot UConn 6-2 in the first half and finished with a 15-11 overall advantage, including six shots on goal.
• Providence had several promising opportunities in the second half which resulted in UConn goalkeeper, Kyle Durham, making diving efforts. He ended up recording six saves.
Ryan Carney made three saves in net, including two stops late in the second half.
• The Friars' back line of Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal), Charlie Dickerson (Norwich, England), Cameron Yriondo (Sammamish, Wash.) and Mitchel Varley (Portsmouth, N.H.) held the Huskies to just three shots on net.
•Providence held a 58% possession advantage and earned five corner kicks in the match.
• There were 45 total fouls in the match, 25 for UConn and 20 for Providence.
