Friars find the net late to earn a draw against Bears

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team battled Brown University to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence, R.I. With the tie, the Friars moved to 2-5-1 (0-1-0 BIG EAST) on the season, while Brown is now 4-2-1 overall on the season. Senior Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) scored the equalizer for the Friars in the 90th minute on a strike that was originally called back for being offside.  However, the officials consulted the video replay and overturned the call on the field giving the Friars the game-tying goal.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
• Brown broke open the scoring just before halftime in the 39th minute when Lorenzo Amaral scored on an unassisted strike to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage.
• The Friars kept pressing and finally tallied the equalizer with 41 seconds remaining in the game as Sam Montalto netted his first goal of the season, assisted by Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) and Caden Stafford (Cincinnatus, N.Y.)
• Montalto's goal was originally called back for being offsides. The officials reviewed the play and overturned the call.
• Providence generated nine total shots, five of which were on goal, while Brown finished with eight shots and two on target.
•The Bears held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, while Providence goalkeeper Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) made one save in the draw.
• Brown's Max Pfaffman recorded four stops between the pipes.
• There were 31 total fouls in the contest — 11 for the Friars and 20 for the Bears.
