No. 18 Men's Soccer Secures A Last-Second Goal To Tie Creighton, 2-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The No. 18 Providence College men's soccer team tied the Creighton Bluejays (4-2-3), 2-2, in a conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 28 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars moved to a 6-2-2 overall, including a 1-0-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) scored twice for the Friars, including the game-tying goal with four seconds left in regulation.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-The Friars nearly took the lead in the eighth minute when Israel Neto's (Salvador, Brazil) shot rebounded off the crossbar. The ball fell to Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England), but his follow-up attempt was cleared off the line by a defender.
- The Bluejays quickly shifted the momentum and took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the first half.
- The Friars nearly tied the game just minutes later, but Scarborough's header bounced off the post.
- Creighton doubled its lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 47th minute.
- With 30 minutes to play, the Friars were awarded a penalty kick after Gabriel Chavez (Wethersfield, Conn.) was fouled in the box. Rosa's attempt was initially saved, but he converted the rebound to put the Friars on the board (2-1).
- In the closing seconds, Brandon Marshall (Wake Forest, N.C.) fired a shot that was deflected by the goalkeeper. Rosa pounced on the rebound and netted the equalizer with four seconds left.
- The Friars outshot the Bluejays, 17-12.

(1-0)- Creighton–11:26/1st – Edward Morales delivered a cross to Ali Ramadan, who received it inside the box and finished with a one-touch strike into the goal.
(2-0)-Creighton-47:55/2nd – Gavrilo Civric threaded a pass to Roman Torres, who slipped it past Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.).
(2-1)- Providence- 60:06/2nd – Rosa scored off a penalty shot.
(2-2)- Providence- 89:56/2nd – Rosa capitalized on the Bluejay goalkeeper's deflection, slotting the rebound from Marshall's shot into the back of the net.

The Friars will travel to Washington, D.C., to play the Georgetown Hoyas (4-3-3, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 4. The match will start at 3:00 p.m. and stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
 
The Hoyas hold a 23-15-4 all-time series edge over the Friars. The last meeting between the two teams was during the 2023 campaign where the Friars upset No. 5 Georgetown, 1-0, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The last time Providence defeated Georgetown on the Hoyas' home field was in 2014, when the Friars pulled off a 2-0 upset against No. 3 Georgetown.
