Lukas Burns recorded a season-best five saves.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The No. 21 Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the Georgetown Hoyas (5-3-3, 2-1-0 BIG EAST), 3-0, in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday, Oct. 4 on Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. The Friars moved to a 6-3-2 overall record including a 1-1-1 mark in BIG EAST Play. Graduate Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) registered a game-high five saves.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

-In the opening 30 seconds of play, a Georgetown player broke free in front of goal but Lukas Burns was able to stop Mitchell Baker's shot.

- For the first three minutes, the Friars were pinned in their own half as they defended three corners and made two back-to-back goal-line clearances.

- The Hoyas took the lead in the 62nd minute when Georgetown's Martin Tabora's shot from outside the box deflected into the goal.

-Georgetown added another goal seconds later (63:49).

-Burns made a second line-clearing save in the 72nd minute.

-GU recorded its third goal of the evening in the with 17 minutes left in regulation time.

-The Friars were outshot 21-7.

The No. 21 Friars will host the Syracuse Orange (4-3-3, 0-2-2 ACC) to wrap up non-conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 8 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The match will is set for 7:00 p.m. and will stream on FloSports.
The Orange hold a 16-11 all-time series edge over the Friars. The last meeting between the two teams was during the 2023 campaign where the Friars fell to No. 1 Syracuse, 2-0, in the season opener in Syracuse, N.Y.
