PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the Syracuse Orange (6-4-3, 1-2-2 ACC), 2-1, in the final non-conference match of the 2024 regular season on Oct. 8 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars moved to a 6-4-2 overall record. Freshman
Steban Lopera (Revere, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal. Junior
Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) registered his first collegiate point after assisting Lopera's goal.

-The Orange took an early 1-0 lead in the 14th (14:40) minute when a cross into the box deflected off
Lukas Burns' (Cinnaminson, N.J.) hands and landed at the feet of a Syracuse player, who tapped it into the net.
- The Friars scored the equalizer with 32 minutes remaining (58:36) after
Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) delivered a one-touch pass to
Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.), who drove down the line and crossed it to Lopera for a one-touch finish from the top of the box.
- Syracuse took back the lead with 19 minutes remaining (70:25) after a header deflected off the post and was tapped into the goal.

The Friars will head to Milwaukee, Wis., to play the Marquette Golden Eagles (6-4-1, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 12. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. (ET) and stream on FloSports.
The Friars hold a 10-4-4 all-time series advantage over the Golden Eagles. The last meeting between the two teams occurred during the 2022 season where Providence tied Marquette, 3-3,on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.
