Men's Soccer Shuts Out Marquette, 1-0, In Weather-Shortened Match

The Friars battled through 72 minutes of regulation to secure a 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles on a goal by Aidan Davock.

MILWAUKEE, Wis.- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles (6-5-2, 2-2-0 BIG EAST), 1-0, in a weather-shortened conference matchup on Oct.12 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Friars improved to a 7-4-2 overall record including a 2-1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Graduate transfer Aidan Davock (Medway, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal. Graduate goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded a game-high five saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made two crucial saves in the first three minutes of play to keep the Golden Eagles from scoring.  
-The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half. Providence outshot Marquette, 5-4, with its last four shots coming in the final leg of the first.
-Just one minute into the second half (46:31), Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) delivered a cross into the box to Davock, who's header found the far side netting. This marked Davock's second goal of the season.
-Due to inclement weather, the match was delayed almost two hours before resuming play.
-Providence and Marquette battled throughout most of the second half, but inclement weather eventually forced a halt to the match. After 72:11 minutes of action, the match was deemed complete and the Friars finished on top, 1-0.
-The Friars have not lost to the Golden Eagles in the last 11 seasons.
