PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by 17
th-ranked Boston College, 3-1, on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars leveled their record at 3-3, while Boston College improved to 4-2 on the year.
GAME FLOW:
• Peyton Hale converted a penalty stroke 5:08 into the game to give Boston College an early 1-0 lead.
• The Eagles maintained their 1-0 lead into halftime and finished the opening 30 minutes of play with the advantage in shots (4-1), shots on goal (2-0) and penalty corners (1-0).
• Providence gave up an early goal to start the third quarter, just 1:19 into the action. Pia Serowik was credited with the goal, assisted by Mia Garber.
• Providence recorded its first offensive penalty corner of the game with 5:49 left in third quarter.
• The Friars nearly cashed in on their first goal of the game to cut the deficit to one, Yani Zhong made a defensive save for BC with her goalkeeper out of position to deny the effort.
• Zhong later came up with an insurance goal for BC on the offensive end during a penalty corner. She tallied off a direct shot, assisted by Martina Giacchino and Madelieve Drion at 54:59.

Celia Preveza got Providence on the board with 1:25 remaining in regulation to make it a 3-1 game. It marked her first tally of the season as she received a feed from
Bella DelNegro from the right side of the circle.
NOTES:
• Preveza's goal marked her first of the season and ninth of her career with the Friars.
• Preveza paced the team with three shot attempts during the game, and put two of her attempts on target.
• DelNegro recorded her second assist of the season and ninth of her career. Last season, DelNegro paced the Friars in assists, with seven.
• Boston College finished the game with a 11-6 advantage in shots, including a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles also led in corners, 4-1.
• In the second half, the Friars fired off five of their six total shot attempts.

Asia Porter played all 60 minutes in the cage and recorded four saves.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars opening BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, Sept. 20 against Quinnipiac. The match will be played in Hamden, Conn. and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Providence will return home to host Holy Cross on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the match, the program will honor its senior class and graduate students.
