CONSHOHOCKEN, PA. – The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by BIG EAST foe Villanova, 4-2, on Friday, Oct. 24 in Conshohocken, Pa. The Friars dropped to 8-7 overall (1-5 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats improved to 5-11 (3-3 BIG EAST).
GAME FLOW:
• The opening quarter of play ended in a scoreless tie, 0-0. Providence held a 4-2 edge in shots and 4-2 advantage in corners.
• Junior
Florencia Talarico (Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored her second goal of the season to give Providence a 1-0 lead at the 21:50 mark. She received a pass from junior
Carly van Benten (Ashburn, Va.) inside the circle and one-timed it into the upper right side of the cage.
• Villanova tied the game, 1-1, at the 28:52 mark as Barrett Trigg scored on a penalty corner opportunity. She was assisted by Colleen Finn.
• The two teams went to halftime tied, 1-1. After 30 minutes of action, Providence led in shots (7-3), shots on goal (4-1) and penalty corners (6-3).
• Villanova took a 2-1 lead just 49-seconds into the third quarter. The Wildcats sent the ball into the circle after earning a restart and Erin Mitchell converted the goal off a feed from Jane Bresnahan.
• The Wildcats carried their 2-1 lead into the fourth quarter.
• Villanova outshot Providence 7-1 in the third quarter and recorded a 3-0 edge in attacking penalty corners.
• Mitchell scored her second of the day to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead at the 49:02 mark. She was assisted by Finnan.

Bo Martina (Nieuw Vennep, Netherlands) gave the Friars some life at the 52:24 mark, scoring her team-best ninth goal of season, to get Providence within 3-2.
• Villanova got the answer at 56:02 to regain a two-goal advantage (4-2). Ava Borkowski was credited with the goal as she stuffed it by
Ava Porter (Somerset, Mass.) at the right post.
• The Wildcats held on for the 4-2 victory.
• Both teams recorded 14 shots and seven shots on goal in the game. The Friars held the edge in corners, 11-9.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence College returns to Lennon Family Field to host Brown University in a cross-city matchup on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Friars will honor their senior class in an on-field ceremony.
