PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Hofstra, 3-1, on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 6-3 overall, while Hofstra dipped to 5-4 on the year.
GAME FLOW:
• The first quarter ended in a scoreless tie (0-0).
• Providence outshot Hofstra, 4-3, in the first frame, including a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. The Friars also held a 3-0 advantage in penalty corners.
• At halftime, the game remained scoreless (0-0). At the break, both teams had registered six shots, with Providence owning a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Friars led in attacking corners, 4-1.
• The Friars broke through early in the third quarter as
Bo Martina (Nieuw Vennep, Netherlands) notched her fifth goal of the season during a penalty corner (33:10). She was assisted by
Florencia Talarico (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Lily Procaccianti (Cranston, R.I.) gave the Friars a two-goal lead on quality touch at the right post, assisted by
Piper Cline (West Chester, Pa.). The goal came at 37:16.
• The Friars carried their 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Providence held a 5-0 advantage in shots during the third quarter.
• Cline chipped in her second goal of the season, and Friars' third of the game, at 48:04. The scoring opportunity developed as the Friars rushed the cage in transition. Freshman
Lilia Payne (Suffolk, England) was credited with the assist.
• Hofstra spoiled the Friars' clean sheet as Tess Satterfield scored during a penalty corner at 59:17, assisted by Teresa Karoff.

Ava Porter (Somerset, Mass.) played 56:14 minutes in the cage for Providence and earned the victory. She did not surrender a goal and collected three saves. Senior
Zoe Onken (Acton, Mass) relieved Porter with 3:46 to play and allowed one goal.
• Martina notched her fifth goal of the season and ranks second on the team overall in goals.
• Procaccianti scored three goals in two games this weekend, having tallied two versus Georgetown on Friday, Sept. 26. She leads the team in goals this season, with six.
• Cline recorded a career-high three points on one goal and one assist. She ranks second on the team in assists this season, with three.
• Payne's assist marked the first of her career, while Talarico notched her second assist of the season
• For the game, Providence led Hofstra in shots (15-11), shots on goal (10-4) and penalty corners (9-7). Five of Hofstra's seven corners came during the fourth quarter.
• The Friars' match versus Hofstra concluded a seven-game home stand at Lennon Family Field.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will hit the road for a pair of games next weekend. Providence will face BIG EAST foe Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 3 in Storrs, Conn. at 3:00 p.m. The Friars will head to Burlington, Vt. to take on Vermont on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 p.m.
