PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 3-1, on Sunday, Oct. 12 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. Junior
Bo Martina (Nieuw Vennep, Netherlands) recorded two goals to pace the offense as the Friars improved to 8-5 overall on the year. Sacred Heart dropped to 4-9 on the season.
GAME FLOW:
• The Friars got on the board at the 9:01 mark as Martina one-timed a feed from
Johanna Mahner (Nuremberg, Germany). Mahner carried the ball along the right baseline and fed Martina near the stroke mark for the tally.
•
Lily Procaccianti (Cranston, R.I.) made it a 2-0 game at the 26:45 mark. Mahner created the build-up, once again, before dumping a pass to
Morgan Mastrobattisto (Madison, Conn.) in the circle. Mastrobattisto sent a one-touch pass to Procaccianti for the score.
• The Friars took their 2-0 lead into halftime. The Friars and Pioneers each attempted four shots. Providence led in shots on goal (2-1) and penalty corners (4-3).
• Martina notched her second goal of the day at 42:56 after knocking home a loose ball of a rebound and Providence took a 3-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
• A penalty corner led to a Sacred Heart goal by Hailey Vogt. She was assisted by Ameilia Pellegrini at 54:50.
NOTES:
• Martina registered her second multi-goal game of the season and third of her career.
• Mahner recorded her third assist of the season.
• Mastrobattisto recorded her first career point with her assist.
• Providence outshot Sacred Heart 16-10, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Friars also held a 11-8 edge in penalty corners.

• Providence will hit the road to face No. 7 Liberty on Friday, Oct. 17 in Lynchburg, Va. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
