Field Hockey Set To Face No. 7 Liberty

Friars and the Flames will square off in BIG EAST play on Friday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to face No. 7 Liberty in BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played at Liberty Field Hockey Field and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (8-5, 1-3 BIG EAST):
• Providence enters the weekend with an 8-5 record, including a 1-3 mark in BIG EAST play.
• A trio of juniors have reached double-digits in the scoring column this season, led by Bo Martina's 18 points on eight goals and two assists. 
• Martina is coming off a two-goal performance in a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart last Sunday. It marked her second multi-goal game of the season and third of her career. She currently leads the BIG EAST in goals per game (0.62).
Carly van Benten ranks second in scoring with 17 points on five goals and a team-best seven assists. Van Benten ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per game (0.54).
Lily Procaccianti ranks third in scoring with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Her seven goals rank second on the team. Procaccianti ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (0.54).
• Martina (1.38), Van Benten (1.31) and Procaccianti (1.15) each rank inside the top-10 of the conference in points per game. The trio sits in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
• Freshman Ari Ftorek is enjoying a solid rookie campaign and enters the weekend with nine points on four goals and one assist.
• Freshman goalkeeper Ava Porter has started all 13 games and has logged 795 minutes in the cage. She owns a 1.36 goals against average and a 0.778 save percentage. The rookie has posted two shut-out victories on the season. 
• Porter ranks first in the BIG EAST in saves per game (4.85), second in save percentage (0.778) and third in goals against average (1.36). She ranks 14th in the nation among NCAA Division I goalkeepers  in save percentage.
• Nine different players have scored at least one goal this season through 13 games, including six multi-goal scorers.
• A handful of players have recorded their first career points this season, including Piper Cline, Johanna Mahner, Martu Torre Festa, Ari Ftorek and Lilia Payne.
Bo Martina and Macie Pennisi were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in August. Martina was a unanimous selection, having come off a 2024 campaign in which she earned All-BIG EAST First Team and NFHCA First-Team All-Northeast Region honors.
• Providence leads the league and ranks eighth in the nation in penalty corners per game (7.62).

SCOUTING LIBERTY (10-2, 4-0 BIG EAST):
• The Flames enter the weekend atop the BIG EAST Conference with a 4-0 record in league action.
• Liberty, ranked No. 7 in the latest NFHCA Division I Coaches' Poll, has compiled a 10-2 record overall.
• Both of the Flames' losses have come against nationally ranked opponents. The team is 2-2 this season versus ranked teams.
• The losses came at the hands of No. 3 Virginia (1-0) and No. 2 North Carolina (3-1).
• Liberty is 5-0 at home this season.
• Five players have reached double digits in the points column, led by Lou Combrinck, who has recorded 20 points on five goals and 10 assists.
• Dara Semmartin is second on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and eight assists, while Zoe Gaillard is third with 12 points on six goals. Her six goals rank first on the team.
• Diane Saint Martin has played all 718 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 0.730 save percentage and a 0.84 goals against average.
• Liberty has scored 30 goals this season (2.50 gpg), while conceding just 11 goals to its opponents (0.92 gpg).
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will return to Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. to complete the regular-season schedule with three-consecutive home games. Next weekend, Providence will host Villanova on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m. The Friars will close the weekend with cross-city rival Brown on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12:00 p.m. The match will serve as the program's annual senior day and will include a pregame ceremony to honor seniors Caroline Krebs and Zoe Onken.
