Piper Cline Records First Career Multi-Goal Game In 2-1 Win At Hofstra

Friars have won five-straight games, including three-consecutive victories on the road.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Hofstra, 2-1, on Sept. 13 in Hempstead, N.Y. to improve to 5-1 on the year. Hofstra dropped to 2-3 on the season. Junior Piper Cline notched her first career multi-goal game to give the Friars their fifth-straight win, including the team's third-consecutive victory on the road.
1ST QUARTER:
• Junior Piper Cline netted a crossing pass from senior Lily Procaccianti just 1:42 into the game to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.
• Providence outshot Hofstra, 4-1, in the opening quarter.
2ND QUARTER:
• Sophomore goalkeeper Ava Porter recorded three saves in the second quarter as the Pride outshot the Friars, 4-2, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.
• Providence maintained its 1-0 lead into halftime.
3RD QUARTER:
• Cline netted her second goal of the day at 38:50 to give Providence a 2-0 advantage. She was assisted on the play by junior Martu Torre Festa.
• Hofstra created a scoring opportunity as the final seconds ticked away and broke through with a goal as the buzzer sounded. Sarah Smalley was credited with the goal off a feed from Greta Kimmel.
• The Friars took a 2-1 lead into the final quarter of play.
• Providence held a 6-4 edge in shots during the third, while Hofstra held the advantage in attacking penalty corners, 4-1.
4TH QUARTER:
• Hofstra pulled their goalkeeper with 3:10 remaining in the match in favor of the extra attacker.
• The Pride were able to generate a shot just 12-seconds later, but the Friars held firm on defense the rest of the way to claim the win.
• Hofstra held a 3-1 edge in shots during the fourth quarter.
• The Friars recorded a 2-0 advantage in corners in the final 15 minutes.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Cline recorded the first multi-goal game of her career.
• Porter finished the match with three saves, all of which came in the second quarter.
• Procaccianti dished her first assist of the season and owns a team-best 11 points on five goals and one assist through six games this season.
