Softball Drops Doubleheader To Butler In BIG EAST Opener

Hanna Aldrich went 4-for-5 on the day for the Friars.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Providence College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader in the Big East opener on Monday (March 11). Butler (12-10, 2-0 BIG EAST) earned 6-5 and 5-1 victories over the Friars (6-9, 0-2 BIG EAST).

GAME 1 NOTES

-The Friars started the scoring with three runs in the top of the second.
Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) hit a two-run double while Gabriella Lee (Ramsey, N.J.) brought in the third Friar run of the day with an RBI single.

-In the top of the fourth, Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) singled up the middle to bring Aldrich and Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) home.

-The Bulldogs scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

-Aldrich went 2-for-3 in game one, while recording two RBI and two runs scored.

 -Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched 5.2 innings and struck out eight while allowing five earned runs.

GAME 2 NOTES

- The Bulldogs raced out to a 5-0 lead in game two with one run in the second inning and a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings.

- Aldrich went 2-for-2 in game two and scored the Friars' lone run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning.

-Riley Quirk and Tori Grifone split time on the circle for Providence, pitching 2.0 and 4.0 innings, respectively.

- Eichten, Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.), Briana De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) and Petrarca also registered hits in game two.

ON DECK

The Friars will close out the three-game series at Butler on Tuesday, March 12 at 12:00 p.m.
