Softball Opens BIG EAST Action At Butler

The Friars will play a three-game series against the Bulldogs.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Providence College softball team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to open BIG EAST play against the Butler Bulldogs. The Friars will play three games between March 8-10.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE

The Friars enter BIG EAST play with a 6-7 overall record. Providence most recently posted a 3-1 mark in the DeMarini Tiger Clash this past weekend (March 1-3).
 
The Friars swept day three of the tournament, defeating UMass Lowell, 7-2, and Howard University, 15-1, in five innings.
 
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) earned BIG EAST honors for the second week in a row after being named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll on March 4. Twomey went 2-0 on the weekend, pitching 12 innings, surrendering only one earned run (0.58 ERA) and five hits while striking out 14 batters. Overall, Twomey commands the circle with a 1.27 era, a 4-0 record and 36 total strikeouts.
 
This past weekend, Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) led the Friar offense, batting 4-for-4 in the win against Howard and 7-for-13 (.538) overall. Aldrich finished the weekend with three
RBI and two runs while boasting a .538 on base percentage.
 
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) aided the Friars with six RBI and six runs each, scoring five and four runs, respectively, at the DeMarini Tiger Clash. Douma is second on the team with a .364 overall batting average, 16 hits, nine RBI and nine runs including one home run.
 
SCOUTING BUTLER
The Bulldogs enter conference action with a 10-9 overall record. Butler went 3-1 last weekend at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, W.Va., earning wins against Marshall, Purdue and Radford.
 
Ella White leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .404 batting average. She has tallied 23 hits and five home runs. Paige Dorsett and Hailey Cogner are close behind with a 23 hits apiece and respective .383 and .365 batting averages.
 
Pitcher Katie Petran has recorded a 2.35 ERA in the circle for the Bulldogs through 62.2 innings. She has struck out 41 batters and has allowed 26 runs.
 
ON DECK

The Friars will travel to New Haven, Conn. to play Yale University in a non-conference matchup on March 12. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
