Softball Swept In Day One Of Mardi Gras Mambo

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Providence College softball team fell to Southeastern Louisiana University, 2-0, and University of Louisiana at Monroe, 5-1, on Friday, Feb. 9 in day one of the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, La. GAME ONE NOTES

•Sophomore Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) started off the game pitching a perfect first inning.

• Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) singled to right field for her first hit of the season in the top of the second.

• The Lions scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-0 advantage over the Friars.

• SLU extended its lead to 2-0 off an RBI double from Bailey Krolczyk in the bottom of the fifth.

•Quirk registered her first start of the season and pitched four innings. Freshman Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) made her career-debut pitching two innings.

GAME TWO NOTES •Junior Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) launched a solo home run to left field in the top of the second inning to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.

•ULM answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

•The Warhawks followed with a RBI single in the bottom of the second to gain a 2-1 edge over the Friars.

•ULM's Brooklin Lippert scored on a wild pitch at the bottom of the fourth to claim a 3-1 lead.

•The Warhawks plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1.

•Junior pitcher Jessica Walter recorded her sixth career-start, and pitched 1.2 innings. Quirk and Twomey finished the game for Providence in the circle.
