Softball Earns A Split On Day Two Of Mardi Gras Mambo

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Providence College softball team split two games in day two of the Mardi Gras Mambo on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Youngsville, La. The Friars were defeated by Nicholls, 6-1, and topped Southern, 9-1, in game two.     GAME ONE NOTES -The Colonels plated two runs in the second inning and two in the third to gain an early advantage.

-Nicholls extended its lead with two more runs at the bottom of the sixth inning.

-Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.), Lea Kosinski (White Station, N.J.) and Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) each registered one hit.

-Senior Tori Grifone started on the circle for the Friars pitching three innings. Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) and Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) finished the game.

-At the bottom of the seventh, Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, M.J.) hit an RBI fly-ball as Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) scored an unearned run.

  GAME TWO NOTES

-The Lady Jaguars took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning.

-Jessica Walter earned a strikeout to close out the second inning.

-In the bottom of the second, Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) hit an RBI single to left field, allowing Aldrich to score, and tying the game at one run each.

-In the bottom of the third, Harrington hit a solo home run to center field, giving the Friars a 2-1 lead.

-In the same inning, De La Fuente singled to center field, advancing Konsinski to second and allowing Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J) to score. Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Mass.) followed with a single to left field which plated two runs – Aldrich and Konsinski scored. The Friars led, 5-1.

-In the bottom of the fourth, De La Fuente doubled to left center, allowing Douma to score the sixth run of the night. In the next play, Sofia Peterson doubled, and De La Fuente touched home to extend the Friars' lead to six, 7-1.

-In the fifth inning, Konsinski's drove in an RBI, allowing Gabriella Sebastian (Ramsey, N.J.), to score her first run of the season and the eighth on the game.

-Entering the bottom of the sixth, Eichten singled to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error.  Dunn scored an unearned runs to seal the game.
