Softball Defeated By Eastern Illinois, 5-4, To Close Out Mardi Gras Mambo Play

YOUNGSVILLE, La.- The Providence College softball team was defeated by the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 5-4, on Sunday, February 11 in Youngsville, La in the final game of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
GAME NOTES
• EIU took an early advantage by scoring a run in the first inning to make it a 1-0 game.
• The Friars got on the board with an unearned run at the top of the third, tying the game at one.
• The Panthers answered with four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.
• At the top of the fourth, Providence plated another run, closing the gap to three, at 5-2.
• Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) hit a triple to start the sixth inning, forcing a Panther pitching change.
•The Friars scored two runs in the sixth inning, cutting the margin to one at 5-4.
• Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.), Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.), Dunn and Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) all scored runs for Providence. Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.), Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) and Alrich all knocked in runs for Providence.
•Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) split equal time on the circle for PC, both pitching three innings.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the UNCW Tournament hosted by University of North Carolina at Wilmington from Feb. 23 through Feb. 25. The Friars will play five games throughout the weekend: UMBC (Feb. 23 at 9:30 a.m.), Merrimack College (Feb 23 at 12:00 p.m.), George Mason University (Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m.), Kent State University (Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m.) and University of North Carolina at Wilmington (Feb. 25 at 1:10 p.m.).
