Softball Opens The 2024 Season At The Mardi Gras Mambo Hosted By Southeastern Louisiana University

The Friars will play five games between Feb.9 – Feb. 11.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team will open its 2024 season in Youngsville, La., at the 2024 Mardi Gras Mambo hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University. The Friars are set to play five games throughout the course of the weekend: SLU (Feb. 9 at 3:00 p.m.), University of Louisiana at Monroe (Feb. 9 at 5:00 p.m.), Nicholls (Feb 10 at 4:30 p.m.), Southern University (Feb. 10 at 4:30 p.m.) and Eastern Illinois University (Feb. 11 at 11:00 a.m.).
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars finished the 2023 season with a 15-32 overall record and a 6-18 record in conference play.
 
The top two hitters from last season, senior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Geanice Morales (San Antonio, Texas), return for another season with the Friars. During the 2023 season, Harrington recorded a .359 batting average with 52 hits and 10 home runs through 145 at-bats. Harrington has earned multiple BIG EAST accolades including All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors (2022 & 2023). Morales posted a .333 batting average with 13 hits, six runs, six RBIs and a .980 fielding percentage.
 
Senior Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) will be returning to the circle for Providence. Grifone posted a 3.99 ERA over 73 innings pitched last season and recorded a team-high 83 strikeouts.
 
Providence welcomes four freshmen to the program for the 2024 season- Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.), Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.).
 
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY
The Lions finished last season with a 47-14 overall record and a 19-5 record in Southland Conference play.
 
Senior Bailey Krolczyk is their most notable returning player, recording a .379 batting average with 67 hits and 50 RBIs in 60 games played last season.
 
SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF LOUSIANA AT MONROE
The Warhawks wrapped up last season with a 25-32 overall record and a 7-17 record in Sunbelt Conference play.
 
Senior Lourdes Bacon returns for another season at ULM. Last season, Bacon posted a .289 batting average with 55 hits and 22 runs in 57 games.
 
SCOUTING NICHOLLS
The Colonels finished their season with a 29-24 overall record and a 13-11 in Southland Conference play.
 
Nicholls returns sophomore Erin Krause who last season recorded a .363 batting average with 58 hits and 34 runs in 53 games. Senior pitcher Audrey McNeill also returns for another season for the Warhawks. Last season, McNeill started 26 games with 31 appearances, holding a 13-8 record with a 2.40 ERA.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Jaguars finished their 2023 campaign with a 13-34 overall record and an 8-16 record in SWAC play.
 
Jaeslyn Frazier returns to Southern University this season after posting a team-best batting average of .294. She registered 20 hits and two home runs in 36 games played. Senior pitcher Anabella Valadez also returns for the Lady Jaguars this season. Valadez finished last season with 13 strikeouts in 18 innings.
 
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
The Panthers wrapped up last season with a 34-21 overall record and 16-6 record in Ohio Valley Conference play.
 
Sophomore Kendall Grover is their most notable returning position player. Last season, Grover was the only player to start in all 55 games as well as the first player in program history to be named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. Grover received First Team All-OVC, OVC All-Tournament Team and All-OVS Newcomer Team Honors. Kendall led the team in batting average (.350), doubles (15) and stolen bases (13) ranking top ten in the OVC in all three categories.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the UNCW Tournament hosted by University of North Carolina at Wilmington from Feb. 23 through Feb. 25. The Friars will play five games throughout the weekend: UMBC (Feb. 23 at 9:30 a.m.), Merrimack College (Feb 23 at 12:00 p.m.), George Mason University (Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m.), Kent State University (Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m.) and University of North Carolina at Wilmington (Feb. 25 at 1:10 p.m.).
