Softball Splits Day Two Of The Buc Up! Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Providence College softball team split day two of the Buc Up! Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Charleston, S.C. The Friars defeated North Dakota, 6-2, and fell to Charleston Southern, 7-2.
GAME ONE NOTES
-North Dakota got on the scoreboard in the first inning earning a 2-0 lead.
-The Friars gained the lead in the second inning with a two RBI double from senior Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) followed by an RBI single from sophomore Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.).
-In the fourth inning, Douma brought in two more runs for the Friars by hitting a double to right center field.
-Senior Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Penn.) stole home in the seventh inning to secure a Friars win.
-Junior Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) earned her first victory of the season in the circle pitching seven innings. She allowed four hits and struck out seven batters.
GAME TWO NOTES
-Charleston Southern scored in the first inning with a home run.
-Junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) hit a two-run home run giving the Friars the lead, 2-1.
- Charleston Southern scored four runs in the fourth inning to gain the advantage, 5-1.
-Freshman Emily Jonte (Allen, Pa.) pitched 5.0 innings for the Friars striking out three batters. Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) relieved Jonte for 2.0 innings and struck out one batter.
ON DECK
The Friars will play Charleston Southern at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 in their final game of the Buc Up! Tournament.
