Softball Travels To South Carolina To Compete In The Buc Up! Tournament Hosted By Charleston Southern

The Friars will play five games between Feb. 17 – Feb. 19.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will travel to Charleston, S. C. to compete in the Buc Up! Tournament hosted by Charleston Southern University from Feb. 17- Feb. 19. Providence will open the tournament on Friday, Feb. 17 with games against UMass and the University of North Dakota. The Friars will face North Dakota and Charleston Southern on Saturday, Feb. 18 before playing in their final game of the tournament against Charleston Southern on Sunday, Feb. 19.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars opened the regular season posting a 1-4 record in the Frank Griffin Classic in DeLand, Fla. The Friars earned a win over Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-5, on Saturday, Feb. 11.
 
Sophomore Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) recorded five hits, four runs, five RBIs and one homerun over five games last weekend. Junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.), sophomore Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) and freshman Geanice Morales (San Antonio, Texas) also brought power to the lineup, each tallying four hits.
 
Senior Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) and junior Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) pitched 7.0 and 14.0 innings, respectively. Cunnigan went 1-0 in the circle, allowing five hits while striking out three batters. Grifone struck out a team-high 10 batters.
 
SCOUTING UMASS
The Minutemen enter the weekend 0-4 after playing in the UCF Tournament last weekend. UMass fell to No. 18 UCF, No. 15 Georgia, RV Boise State and RV Ohio State in the tournament.
 
Junior Sarah Keagy went 4-for-9 at the plate posting a .444 batting average and a .667 slugging percentage over four games. Sophomore Julianne Bolton pitched 11.0 innings last weekend and struck out six batters.
 
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
The Fighting Hawks enter the tournament 0-5 after playing in the Central Coast Classic in San Luis Obsipo, Calif. last weekend.
 
Junior Isabella Haslett went 5-for-7 at the plate over three games recording a .714 batting average while scoring a team-high five runs. Sophomore Angie Dumlao recorded four hits and two RBIs over five games for the Fighting Hawks.
 
Sophomore Jackie Albrecht and freshman Camryn Lasota lead the Fighting Hawks in the circle pitching 10.0 and 7.0 innings, respectively. They have struck out 12 batters combined.

SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
The Buccaneers enter this weekend's tournament after only playing one game last weekend and having six games canceled due to inclement weather. Charleston Southern defeated Merrimack, 3-0, in its opening game on Thursday, Feb. 9.
 
Freshman Harper Schoeneweis, graduate student Ashley Meckley and sophomore Lexi Markle each recorded a hit in the Buccaneers opening game against Merrimack. Senior Annah Junge earned the win in the circle pitching a complete game while striking out eight batters and recording a 0.00 ERA.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will face Merrimack College on Wednesday, March 1 in North Andover, Mass. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
