Softball Outlasts Creighton On The Road, 10-7

OMAHA, Neb. - The Providence College softball team rebounded to claim the third game of their BIG EAST series at Creighton on Sunday (March 27), 10-7. The Friars improve to 18-9 overall this season and 5-4 in BIG EAST play.

GAME NOTES 

- The Friars struck for four runs in the first inning. Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) singled to left field to bring in Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.), Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) hit a two-run double and Kaelyn Longcharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) reached on an error to bring in another run.

The Bluejays responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 4-2.

- Harrington led off the second inning with a solo home run, her seventh of the season, to make it 5-2 Friars.

Rachael Petrarca's (Clearwater, Fla.) RBI single and Gianna Magrino's (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) bases loaded walk in the third and fourth innings respectively extended the lead to 7-2.

- In the top of the fifth, Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) and Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) each added RBI hits to make it 9-2 Friars.

- Petrarca added another RBI singles in the top of the sixth inning to give Providence a 10-4 lead.

- The Bluejays rallied in the bottom of the seventh with three runs but the Friars were able to get out of the jam.

- Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) earned the win in relief, pitching 3.2 innings and surrendering four earned runs on six hits. Grifone started and tossed 3.1 innings with six strikeouts while allowing three earned runs.

The Friars will host Georgetown in a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 1.
