KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College softball team earned a 3-2 extra-inning victory over the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, March 22 in Kingston, R.I. With the win, the Friars improve to 17-7 overall in the 2022 season.

GAME NOTES 

-Providence took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning after Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) reached on an error, bringing home Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.)

-Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning with her team-leading seventh home run of the season. 

- The Rams responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. The teams would remain scoreless until the eighth inning.

- Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) led the eighth off with a single before Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) pinch ran for her, ultimately swiping second base. With two outs, Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) brought home the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single.

- Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) started the game and went 3.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.

- Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) earned the win with five scoreless innings of relief to improve to 3-1 this season.

- Petrarca finished the day 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.

ON DECK

The Friars will travel to Omaha, Neb. For a three-game BIG EAST series against Creighton University beginning on Friday.
