Softball Battles Creighton In BIG EAST Series in Omaha

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will hit the road for a three-game BIG EAST series beginning on Friday (March 25) in Omaha, Neb. against Creighton.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter the weekend at 17-7 overall after Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the University of Rhode Island. Providence extended its non-conference winning streak to eight games with the win over the Rams. The Friars have posted a 4-2 record in BIG EAST play, taking two-of-three games in series against Seton Hall and St. John's.
 
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) continues to pace the Friars lineup with a .333 batting average. She also leads the team in hits (25) and RBIs (14). Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) has posted a .313 batting average recording 21 hits and 12 RBIs after knocking in the game-winning run in the eighth inning against Rhode Island on Tuesday. Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) went 3-for-4 against Rhode Island, including her team-leading seventh home run of the season.
 
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) leads the pitching staff with a 2.13 ERA, 7-4 record and 87 strikeouts through 69.0 innings. Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) is 6-2 with a 2.69 ERA and 52 strikeouts through 57.1 innings. Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) improved her record to 3-1 this season after five shutout innings against Rhode Island on Tuesday. She has a 4.10 ERA over 29.0 innings in 2022.
 
SCOUTING CREIGHTON
The Bluejays enter the weekend series at 11-10 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST play after dropping two-of-three games against Seton Hall last weekend.
 
Creighton has six players batting over .300 this season, led by Cayla Nielsen (.382) and Emma Rosonke (.360). Rosonke paces the Bluejays with 21 RBI, while Kailey Wilson boasts a .328 batting average and a team-high five home runs.
 
Mikayla Santa Cruz has logged a team-high 51 innings and is 5-5 overall with a 3.43 ERA. Kate Mullally has a team-best 2.82 ERA over 27.1 innings, while Alexis Wiggins has a team-high nine starts with a 4.65 ERA and 3-2 record.

ON DECK
The Friars will return home on April 1 to begin a three-game BIG EAST series against Georgetown.
