PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will travel to Kingston, R.I. for a single game against the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, March 22. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter Tuesday's matchup at 16-7 overall and winners of seven-consecutive non-conference contests. Providence went 4-1 over the past week, sweeping a doubleheader against Merrimack on March 16 before taking two-of-three against St. John's to improve their mark to 4-2 in BIG EAST play.
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) continues to pace the Friars lineup with a .347 batting average. She also leads the team in hits (25) and RBIs (14), adding a home run and two RBI over five games this past week.
Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) has posted a .317 batting average recording 20 hits and 11 RBIs.
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) went 5-of-12 at the plate last week, including her team-leading sixth home run of the season and four RBI.
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) had a big week in the circle for the Friars, posting a 0.71 ERA over 19.2 innings pitched. She struck out 24 while only surrendering 12 hits in posting a 2-1 record in three appearances.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched a complete game shutout in the Friars' 8-0 win over St. John's on Friday and recorded a save in the series finale on Sunday. She struck out eight over 6.2 innings, allowing just four hits.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams enter Tuesday's matchup at 5-15 overall after dropping four of five Atlantic 10 contests last week against Dayton and UMass.
Rhode Island is led by Sami Villarreal, who leads the team in average (.306) and hits (19). Ari Castillo paces the Rams in home runs (2) and RBI (13).
Liz Lynchard has started 11 games for the Rams, posting a 3-10 record, a 4.30 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 70.0 innings pitched. Cameron Whiteford has started five games, registering a 4.62 ERA over 33.1 innings. As a staff, opponents have batted .326 against the Rams this season.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Creighton University for the start of a three-game BIG EAST series beginning on Friday, March 25 in Omaha, Neb.
