Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team downed St. John's, 3-1, on Sunday (March 20) at Glay Field to take two-of-three contests in the BIG EAST series. The Friars improve to 16-7 overall and 4-2 in BIG EAST play with the win.
GAME NOTES
-St. John's scored the first run of the game, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the first inning.
-Tiana Wren's (Glenn Lyon, Pa.) two-run double in the first inning gave the Friars a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Kari Shedrick (Apex, N.C.) crossed the plate on the play.
- Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) gave Providence insurance in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game.
- Grifone pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run and four hits while striking out eight for her seventh win of the season.
- Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) came on to retire the final two batters via strikeout to earn her first save of the season.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Kingston, R.I. to face intra-state rival, the University of Rhode Island, on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m.
