Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Seton Hall

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence Softball split a doubleheader against the Seton Hall University Pirates on Saturday, May 8. The Friars took the first game, 11-2, before dropping the second game, 4-0. Providence moves to 4-16-1 on the season with a 3-13-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
 
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
-In game one, Providence came back from a two-point deficit and claimed a 11-2 victory over the Pirates in just five innings.
-Seton Hall jumped on the board, 2-0, in the top of the first with a home run by Darby Pandolfo with an RBI of two.
-Providence cut their deficit by one in the bottom of the first, 2-1, with a home run by Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.).
-The Friars soared past the Pirates, 7-2, in the bottom of the third with six hits and six runs, including back-to-back two RBI hits from Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) and Madi Traver (Irving, Texas)
-Providence carried their hot streak into the fourth inning adding four points to their lead, 11-2, with another six-hit inning.  Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.), Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.), Marisa Jenkins (Randolph, N.J.) and Traver all contributed runs for the Friars.
-Junior Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched the entirety of the game, allowing just two hits and striking out five batters.
 
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 -Both teams were scoreless through five innings until Seton Hall brought in two home runs by Hailey Arteaga and Darby Pandolfo in the top of the sixth. Arteaga's home run to left field brought in two runs and Pandolfo's brought in one, 3-0.
-The Pirates put one more on the board, 4-0, in the top of the seventh inning with a triple from Abby Wingo that allowed Marisa Pla to make a run.
-Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) took the mound for the first 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits and contributing five strikeouts. Olivia Sprofera (Mahwah, N.J.) was in the circle for the final inning, earning her fist career strikeout.

Providence will finish their series against Seton Hall tomorrow, May 9, at noon for their last regular season game and senior day.
