Softball Defeats Seton Hall In Senior Day Series Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team claimed the third and final game of their series against Seton Hall on Sunday, May 9 by a score of 8-4 over the Pirates. Providence ends its 2021 campaign with a 5-16-1 overall record and a 4-13-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
HIGHLIGHTS
-Darby Pandolfo from Seton Hall got the Pirates on the board in the first inning with a home run to left field, 1-0.
-Madi Traver (Irving, Texas) started off the scoring for the Friars in the bottom of the first with a double to left center, allowing Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) and Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) to make runs, 2-1.
-Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) added one, 4-1, after Marisa Jenkins (Randolph, N.J.) grounded out to third base.
-Abby Wingo hit the second home run for the Pirates in the top of the second, with an RBI of one, 4-2.
-Providence tacked on three more points in the bottom of the third, 6-2, with home runs from Tori Grifone (1 RBI) and Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) (2 RBI).
-Tomaso added another run in the fourth inning as Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) singled to second base, 7-2.
-In the fifth, Janae Barracato singled up the middle and Taylor Soanes was able to make a run for Seton Hall, 7-3.
-The Friars responded in the bottom of the fifth as Harrington grounded to first base, allowing Cunnigan to make a run, 8-3.
-Janae Barracato ran one in for the Pirates off a walk by Kelsey Carr in the final inning, 8-4.
-Julia Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass.), Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.), Olivia Sprofera (Mahwah, N.J.) and Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) all appeared on the mound for the Friars, with Alvarez pitching the majority. In three innings Alvarez had three strikeouts and three hits. Sprofera and Gunderson had one strikeout each.
