Providence, R.I.- The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ocean State Invitational at the
Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I. on April 9. The meet featured 11 men's teams and 12 women's teams.
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) set facility records with their finishes.
In the mile, Ernst finished first with a time of 4:00.64. Fellow Friar, Rocha placed first by over 25 seconds in the 5,000-meter. Rocha's time, 13:55.98, broke a previous facility record by over 10 seconds.
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) ran a strong performance in the 3,000-meter, finishing second (8:02.44). Gallagher's time, 8:02.44, is a personal best by five seconds.
On the women's side,
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) and
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) took first in their respective events. Wheeler led from start to finish and set a personal best, 4:41.93, in the mile. Tuck set a personal-best in the 3,000 meter (9:24.11). Tuck's time was 16 seconds ahead of the next runner.
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) placed second in the 5,000-meter (16:02.91). Coffin's time is a personal-best by over 30 seconds.
Other Notable Performances:

Catherine Stolbof (Red Bank, N.J.) won her heat and set a personal-best in the 400-meters (59:52).

Dana Lowney (Easton, Mass.) placed second in the 800-meter (2:14.67).

Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) had a great race in the mile, finishing third (4:03.23).

Orla O'Connor (Waterland, Ireland) set a personal-best in her third-place finish in the 5,000-meter (16:28.66)
