Softball Drops Pair To Creighton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team was swept in a series-opening doubleheader against Creighton on Friday (March 12) at Glay Field. The Friars dropped game one, 2-0, and game two, 6-0.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Creighton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Kailey Wilson.
- The Bluejays tacked on an insurance run in the top half of the seventh inning on squeeze play to make it 2-0.
- The Friars brought the tying run to the plate after Lyndsey Evix lined a one-out single off the center field wall.
- Parker Boyd retired Mairead O'Sullivan and Tiana Wren to stop the Friars' rally and secure the 2-0 win.
- Daniela Alvarez pitched four innings, allowing just one earned run and four hits, while Sarah Gunderson came on in the final three innings, giving up two hits and zero earned runs.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Bluejays amassed 14 hits in game two, racing out to 2-0 lead through three innings.
- Creighton added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before tacking on two more runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 6-0.
- Tori Grifone and Jessica Tomaso accounted for all five Friar hits in the game, with Tomaso going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk in four plate appearances. Grifone went 2-for-4 in game two with two singles.
- Grifone also started in the circle for the Friars, allowing eight hits and one earned run in five innings while striking out five.
- Julia Murphy pitched the final two innings for Providence, surrendering six hits and three earned runs.
ON DECK
Providence will hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to DePaul for a three-game series next weekend.
