PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will continue BIG EAST play when they take on the Villanova Wildcats in Villanova, Pa. for a weekend series, beginning with a double header on Saturday, April 6 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday, April 7 at 12:00 p.m.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence extended its winning streak to six games on Wednesday, April 3 after earning a 6-0 win over the Brown Bears. The Friars improved to 21-12 overall with the win and are currently third in the BIG EAST with a 4-2 conference record.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) is hitting .423 in her senior season and will break a tie with Rachel Bartholomew for the all-time hits record in program history with her next hit this weekend. Lee ranks first in the conference with her .423 batting average and 41 hits, and is currently on an eight-game hitting streak. She continues to be a tough out at the plate, posting a .477 on base percentage, which proves to be fourth-best in the BIG EAST. Freshman
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) has been a strong counterpart in the cleanup hole. Tomaso posts a .321 batting average with 17 RBI on the season.
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) leads the team in RBI with 18. The Friars have proved to be a threat on the base paths, successfully stealing 29 bases in 34 attempts.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) leads the pitching staff with a 2.00 ERA and an 11-4 record. Alvarez has earned two BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week awards at this point of the season. She leads the BIG EAST in ERA (2.00) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.82).
Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) holds a 3-2 record and a 2.59 ERA alongside Alvarez's success. McCune has pitched 67.2 innings, second most on the team, striking out 44 batters.
Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) earned the win over Brown this past week and improved to 3-2 on the season. She holds a 2.51 ERA and has started nine of her 14 appearances.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA:
The Wildcats hold a .500 record at 16-16, with a 1-2 record in BIG EAST play. Villanova was scheduled to play Butler last weekend but all three games were canceled due to inclement weather.
Paige Rauch has led the way at the plate, riding a seven-game hitting streak with a .387 batting average. Rauch leads the team in batting average (.387), hits (36), home runs (9) and RBI (28). Delaney Switzer is the only other Wildcat hitting over .300. Switzer is currently hitting .320 with 31 hits and 16 RBI.
Rauch has been Villanova's number one pitcher in the circle alongside her success at the plate. Rauch posts an 8-7 record with a 2.61 ERA. She has made 17 starts in 20 appearances and has pitched six complete games. Sara Kennedy and Anissa Amarillas are the other Wildcats to make at least five starts. Kennedy holds a 3-1 record in five starts while Amarillas is 4-6 on the season in 16 appearances.

Providence will travel to Central Connecticut State on Thursday, April 11 for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
