Track Set To Host Ocean State Invitational

The Friars will host the Ocean State Invitational on Friday, April 12 at the Ray Treacy Track.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track and field team will host its one home meet of the season on Friday, April 12. The Friars will welcome 16 teams to compete in the Friday night session of the two-day meet with action starting on the Ray Treacy Track at 4:45 p.m.
The Invitational portion of the meet will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will feature seeded sections of the men's and women's 800 meters, mile, 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The women's 800 meters will be the first invitational race of the day and will feature the 2019 NCAA indoor mile bronze medalist Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.). Paladino opened her outdoor season with a 4:16.82 1,500 meters at the Stanford Invitational on Mar. 29. Paladino's time is currently ranked fifth in the NCAA for this season.
The men's 800 meters will feature graduate student Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.). Wyman has had a solid start to the outdoor season running 3:45.17 in the 1,500 meters at Raleigh Relays (Mar. 29). Wyman has set new personal bests in each race he has competed in this season. His time cureently ranks 11thin the East Region.
The start list for the women's mile contains three Friar All-Americans, Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Western Australia), Regan Rome (Dalla, Pa.) and Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.). Ilarda has recently run a personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:50.42) at the Stanford Invitational on Mar. 29. Her time ranks first in the NCAA this season and eight all time in Australia. Rome and Wheeler have also had solid starts to the season. Rome posted a 33:26 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational (Mar. 29). Her time currently ranks fifth in the East Region so far this season. Wheeler opened her season at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge on Mar. 16. Wheeler took the victory in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:39.38. The facility record of 4:40.07, was set by Paladino last year when she was competing unattached.
The men's mile should prove to be quick as all athletes in section one have all run under 4:10. The Friars will feature Michael O'Leary (St. James, N.Y.) and Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) in the first section. O'Leary and White have both had great starts to the outdoor season, both running personal bests in the 1,500 at Raleigh Relays (Mar. 29). At Raleigh Relays, White ran a time of 3:46.25 and O'Leary was not far behind posting a time of 3:47.64. The Friars are ranked 25thand 29thin the East Region.
Senior Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) will also be running for Friars in section two of the mile. Karamanolis is coming off a huge personal best in the 5,000 meters (14:07.55) at the Raleigh Relays on Mar. 29. His time currently ranks 28thin the East Region.
