Friars will close the weekend with a non-conference match at UMass.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (5-5, 1-1 BIG EAST): Providence College enters the weekend with a 5-5 overall record, including a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST action. The Friars have earned victories in five of their last seven games, including each of the last two matches against LIU Brooklyn (8-0) and Temple (3-2, 2OT). Providence is 2-0 at home on Lennon Family Field, where it has outscored its opponents, 12-1.
Junior Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) leads the Friars in scoring with a single-season career-best of 15 points on six goals and three assists. She recently was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season after scoring the game-winning goal in double-overtime to defeat BIG EAST foe Temple, 3-2, on Sept. 21.
Junior Kara Sanford (Hazleton, Pa.) and sophomore Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) are second on the team in scoring with nine points each. Sanford owns four goals and one assist, while Babineau checks in with two goals and a team-best five assists. Junior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) has tallied eight points for the Friars and is tied for second in goals, with four. Senior Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.) is tied for the team lead in assists (five).
The Friars have outscored their opponents, 23-21, this season. Providence also has held the advantage in shots (140-110), shots on goal (90-66) and penalty corners (81-47).
In goal, senior Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) has seen the majority of minutes for Providence (611). She owns a 1.72 goals against average, a 0.700 save percentage and a 5-4 overall record. She posted the first two shut-out victories of her career against Brown (1-0) and LIU Brooklyn (8-0).
Providence and Villanova have played 36 times during the history of the two field hockey programs. Providence holds a 23-11-2 lead in the all-time series, including wins in 12 of the last 15 meetings.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA (4-5, 1-1 BIG EAST): Villanova enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.  The squad opened BIG EAST action with a 5-2 victory over Georgetown on Sept. 14, but dropped its next two games against Monmouth (3-1) and Liberty (8-0). The Wildcats are coming off of a 4-3 overtime win at Rider in their most recent game on Sept. 23.
Two Wildcats have cracked double-digits in the scoring column, led by Megan Vermeil's 12 points on five goals and two assists. Lydia Sydnor checks in with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Seven other members of the team have found the back of the cage this season. Emily Clarke is third on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and a team-best three assists. Riley Dolan also has recorded three assists this season. Erika Miller has played 635 minutes in the cage for the Wildcats. She has posted a 2.65 goals against average and a 0.652 save percentage. Â
The Wildcats have outshot their opponents, 118-116, through nine games. Their opponents have held a 67-59 edge in penalty corners. The Wildcats have recorded 39 of their 59 penalty corners in the second half, including one in overtime.
SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS (4-5): UMass enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record and will face Davidson on Sept. 28, prior to its match against Providence on Sept. 30. The Minutewomen have earned victories in two of their last three games, with its only loss coming at the hands of nationally-ranked Harvard, 4-0. In its most recent game on Sept. 21, UMass defeated conference foe La Salle, 4-1. The Minutewomen have played a tough schedule with three of their five losses coming against nationally-ranked teams: No. 5 Michigan (5-0), No. 1 Connecticut (8-3) and No. 16 Harvard (4-0).
Antonet Louw has recorded 26 points this season on 12 goals and two assists. She has accounted for more than half of UMass' goal scoring this season, tallying 12 of the team's 21 goals. Louw also has taken the majority of the Minutewomen's shot attempts (42 of 108). Lucy Cooper has cracked double-digits in the scoring column with 12 points on three goals and a team-best six assists. Only four other players have scored goals this season.
Johanna von dem Borne has played 615 minutes in the cage for UMass and owns a 3.30 goals against average and a 0.695 save percentage.
